Let’s learn about: Equivalent fractions
Remember:
Fractions represent equal parts of
a whole or a collection.
Some fractions may look different but are really the
same, for example:
There are two ways for obtaining equivalent fractions: Through multiplication and division
(simplifying)
Equivalent fractions through
multiplication
For obtaining equivalent fractions through multiplication, you must multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number.
For example:
So, 2/3, 4/6, and 8/12 are equivalent fractions.
Equivalent fractions through division
For simplifying a
fraction, you must divide the
numerator and denominator by the same
number. For example:
Pay attention, 8/12, 4/6, and 2/3 are equivalent fractions.
